Busy, busy and oh look there are gems!

The Schmuck gallery hopping has begun in earnest.  The first visit of the day started at a student grad show called 'Life is a bench II' which had a great layout for the work. They had taken some jewellers benches and used the drawers stacked on top of each other in a haphazard manner which meant that as you walked around the work you would see something different each time. For me the work that I connected with was by Katarina Moch who created a pieces made of coloured melted plastic that reminded me of those organisms that you can see under the microscope when they blown up into a bigger image.
Next was the 'Finger and Hand Costume' show which had some had work by Unk Kraus who used sheet plastic to create a type of glove and Christine Wheeling who created grasshoppers and butterflies out of silver. Overall the works shown didn't interest me as much as I had hoped they would especially as the title of the show sounded intriguing but I guess this is a case of not judging a book by its cover. After a quick stop for cake it was off to 'Look' curated by Ruudt Peters, which I could have really enjoyed but for the blue light that used to illuminate the room and work. For me this meant I had to "look" closer at the work but it strained my eyes so much that it made me feel ill and I had to leave before seeing all the work. But it was a show that as a group we talked about as the day progressed.
The Mari Ishikawa show also had a three other artists exhibiting and one of them -Flora Vagi did some interesting work based on cut up books which were then had the pages individually folded and bent with the edges dyed. The layout of work was also different from the norm in that the plinths were arranged in a question mark shape in the room. We then took a little break to buy some great gems from this shop that Karin had stumbled on her last visit to Munich then after that myself and Victoria went to find 'Schones Sammelin' which had a great layout. The work was displayed in those giant wooden shipping crates inside gallery. It had a a lot of 'name' artists there but one tiny problem in that the work hadn't been numbered to the information sheets which could be a problem for those who are unfamiliar with certain peoples work.
The last gallery of the day was to to see Ruudt Peters 'Anima' and 'Under the Cloud' opening which had a really interesting way of displaying Ruudt's brooches on oval mirrors which hung down from the ceiling at various heights so if you standing the right way it looked as though  you were wearing the work and if you taking a picture your reflection became part of the work.
