Catching up with my past few days.

Monday we have visited Helen Britton, David Beilander.

David Beilander is originally from Switzerland, having goldsmith trained and studied at the Munich academy, He has explained about his making and there were a lot of interesting points have been mentioned.

What’s interest me was that when he describe his process of making, he think of the idea first and then look for the material for it, for example his sausage neck piece made out of the back of Thonet bentwood chair. How would you think this! Sorry for my terrible assumption that I thought that was some sort of already made plastic toy! his work is very  tricky and an element of humor. He describe that how European history of ornamentation is more and more and too much of detail so there for he reduced element through the process of making, how he transform the material by process of making but keep how simple it can be without loosing the detail, in comparison Helen’s work which is s intricate and detailed, more like constriction which is very different approach to David. Both have very different approaches to contemporary jewellery making but at the same time the most important things for them is that the importance of wearability. Jewellery have to be wearable and then it not a jewellery.

Their works are coming to gallery Funaki in later this year; I would like to see the show very much.

Wednesday Pforzheim, visiting real schmuck museum!

We have caught a train about 3 hours. My experience of schmuck museum was amazing.

Was so lucky to be able to see old jewellery, collections, so many amazing craftsmanship, so many details, was just so mind-blowing… baroque of jewellery, rococo, medieval, mourning jewels. All of them were stunning. I love the color of rich orange gold and the combination of colorful precious stones…. I also enjoyed seeing very old Egyptian jewels too.

I was just mind-blowing to see what human can create these delicate and finest tiny details,

It was very interesting to see the technique and ornamentation of jewellery after seeing new different approach to jewellery. But yet I believe something is same, the somebody spend time to produce something so beautiful for somebody, is such a beautiful things.

I had wonderful trip for two weeks and I am very looking forward to going back to my bench.

Garden

Garden, by Finish Jeweller  Helena Lehtinen
In this solo exhibition Helena produced series of work looking into function of the memory.


Helena's work contain imagination of thinking of how the garden in full bloom might be look, in winter, under the snow. is that blight yellow blossom? or blue glasses underneath? 
Remind me of smell of fresh garden in front of myself,


The works are almost like Scandinavian silkscreen print, but in tactile quality, in three dimensional,
yet by the light the beads are sparkly and full of lively.

In Scandinavian during the winter, having only short period of daylight, all covered in powder snow white, The landscape is almost in monochrome world,  the snow covered the landscape and project the silhouette of the shadow project on top of each other, on white background.


Yet, from the street, the house from the window, insides are all lit up by candlelight and soft indirect illumination, and with bright Scandinavian beautiful textile curtain.

Helena's imagination of garden were beautifully displayed in a gallery space, almost like the Scandinavian winter afternoon... on the street on the way home, when daylight goes down and street light and all the houses are lit up.

 

Her used of material combination and the choice of colour create this imaginative plant for the body.

I really enjoyed the show, remind me of beautiful Swedish winter.

I love australian jewellers!

Today We have visited two australian stars who live and works in here in Germany,
Starting a day by Helen Brittons look runch!

I am in love with helen's work, its so dreaming, and inspring,
Her work is always intrasting from every single direction and angle.

Also met Nikolay Sardamov who exhibit at Metalab last year and He was rememberd me and yunghuei!

was very lovey!

after that we had another cake break, mm, yesterday was better. can we go back to the yesterday's cake place? possibly??? was mmmmmm! yuuuuummmm.


Jewelley and cake this trip has been fantastic!

after that we have visited Laura Deakin s lovely lovely studio!
She was evry generas of sharing her stories with us and her work.
We were so lucky to be able to see her graduate work from munich academy, and her amazing my favorite pearls.

A way of exhibit jewelery in the public.

LOOK , exhibition curated by Ruudt Peters, at Galerie Caroline van Hoek. showing various jewellers including Dana Seachuga, Noemie Doge, Beatrice Brovia, Nicolas Cheng, Estela Sáez Vilanova, Seth Papac, Adam Grinovich, Hanna Hedman, Edgar Mosa, Diana Dudek, Nelli Tanner, Carolina Gimeno, Annika Pettersson, Kuo Ara, Romina Fuentes,Tobias Alm …

The gallery was lit up by scenography, all the room was turned in blue dark light, that almost we weren’t able to see the work.

Look, from the title, It made me question, about this way of installation, jewellery displayed without the light.

When jewellerys are exhibited, there will be a plenty of light most of time to being able to see the work well and even better, however, in this show Look, It was clearly we couldn’t see easily,

Almost it challenge all the notion of jewelly being exhibited in the light room,

So all the audience were using their mobile phone light to see the work closely, and taking photo with flash too see the work,

Instead of enjoying to see the work, this exhibition was almost like trying to see, as if the object has more power that we all the audience have to see the work by depending on some other tool such as photo light and flash too see the work to appreciate the work,

Peters comment on the show LOOK, I think it is very interesting and also it is very powerful statement to say,

“ Do we have to look the works in such a dark room?”

After that we have also visited another opening by Ruudt Peters,

In this show he has used miller hanged by the ceiling to exhibit his work,

I liked when I see the piece by miller and seeing the work on my chest like as if I am wearing a brooch or almost simulation like. But the other hand some of the works were at my eye height for me. I am very small, but when I try to see the work closely seeing my own face was very disturbing.

When I try to take a picture I take a reflection of the audience taking a photographs.

I personally prefer the display that emphasize the work well simply,

I enjoyed a show by a group of jewellers graduating from Birmingham School of Jewellery with Masters in 2009.

The works are all displayed on the bench, for small studio space using the bench as a plinth was such a beautiful way stacking drawer on top of each other works are individually placed in side of drawer.

Today’s show made me question, how would you exhibit your work.

Schmuck

Today we had visited Schmuck, 

One of my favorite  a day is a work by Platina gallery, from Stockholm, 

In this exhibition, AEON PROFIT - PIANO FORTE,

from a piano the group of artists create a series of jewllery, such, necklace, ring, brooch and bangles,

the way they turned the piano for a form for the body, was very fasinaing too see, 
the possibility of what can be worn, in such a beautful way, that we hardly can guess that was made out of piano.

Yunghuei chao, Who visited Sydney College of art last year as an exchange student from Taiwan, has her work exhibited at Talente,

At the end of her stay in Sydney, Yunghuei had presented about her art practice at Sydney college of the art,

Since back then, Yunghuei has been working on this series, She has been  taking photo of different houses and buildings from her stay and also back home in Taiwan. 

After almost a year later today, When I saw her work, I was very happy and impressed at how she resolved the work
and how she turned her experience from Sydney, brought back in Taiwan and turn them into such a beautiful jewellery,

It moved me a lot,

She is so talented and very lovely girl,

I am very excited to meet her again on Friday.


Was such an overwhelming day, seeing full of amazing works,

We has also see the By example, – an exhibition of Australian contemporary jewellery, held at the Museum of Arts and Crafts, Itami, catalog for sale, which Karin curated last year in Japan.

Hema where Jenny bought her nuts!

Today was such an beautiful day visiting country side, Nijimegen by train.
We have visited galerie Marzee, it is almost like an archive of jewellery movement.

There was so much too see.
Beautiful and experimental works.

I was so happy to see actual work by Japanese jeweller Sonobe Etsuko, Karl Fritsch's earlier pieces.
after that we went to see Silvia's work from true colour.



"Hi silvia ! i'ts so amzing to see your work in the modern art gellery, all your hard work and tears are so beautifuly displayed.! Your work is so standing out with other works...!"

Day2

Today we have visited galley Ra and Louise Smit.
I was able to see another Gills Beckers work at gallery Ra,

I realized that Becker's work is still radical after 40 years later.
Today we see lots of contemporary jewellery that's is different and intricate and the story behind and
the material they use is very interesting, and I do enjoy seeing
them and I do like them

But not this Becker's work. It is so simply made, like less is more?
And less is harder too.

You can add so much to it but so hard to reduce element..

Becker's work has specially, this beauty of simplicity but different

Many jewellers I have seen, they try challenging this by doing something new
but I think Beckers work is still radical after 40 years.

It is very timeless.

I could not believed that was made in 40years ago!

Hallo day1!

Hallo!

Here we arrived 6am morning.

yes we were very sleepy.

Atelier Ted Noten.

We visited Ted’s studio unfortuenttly he was on holiday so could not see real Ted but his assistants, who were so lovely,

His studio has 3 main areas: big studio space where they work for bigger project such as acrylic piece and proto type for 3D printing projects,

Next room here all the emails paper works so cold room that's how they describes,

And gold smith room where they work for small delicate works.

Ted Noten is now working on project working based on 3D printing, which he describe that allows them more freedom of creativity,

But combine with hand based traditional way of working.

Ted is a storyteller, telling storied through his creation,

And What made me realize is the importance of Context, contextualize your work in the world, think about how to show your work to wear, or if object how to be shown with..

so I think this will be something I would like to address when I am back..:)

so other than that…..

In the morning, we have started a day from most delicious Apple tart and a coffee

and the big cat.

we walked through lovely flower market.

so pretty, if only I could take them home.

Went to droog, amazing designer store.

lots of cute shops. and so on…

good night, I am very sleepy.
