We went to Wendy Ramshaw and David Watkins lecture talk AND it was in ENGLISH! It was very very very nice to listen in english away from Australia in Munich. The talk was fun and humorous which I wasn't expected and I couldn't believe they both worked for more than 50years and I wander how they have managed to work together for so long time. I was also interested that they began to make jewellery out of paper when they first started their collaboration work. What I think of paper jewellery, is that it has temporary and fragile quality of material and I was amazed by their creative idea to use its material to attempted to break the traditional concept of jewellery, especially during 60s and 70s where people were very much in used to wear precious matal. Last year I worked with paper as I was thinking of only temporal effect on meterials that they are not carrying the notion of 'duralbility' and un-wearbale pieces to wear on body. The difference is that the aim was 'to make' wearable jewellery pieces whereas I was aim to make 'unwearable' pieces, only thinking of unattainable ideal its material to work with in jewellery. It was very useful lecture and I took curage from its talk in any conception.
After the lecture, I went to another gallery called 'Garden'. The pieces of work by Helena Lehtinen was interesting the way she collaborated with beads, silver and natural branches where it was beautifully wrap around by colourful threads and silver was attached which I could not guess how it was done, and the beads were delicately thread on silver. The colours somehow reminded me of my childhood, where I used to play with colourful toys and doll and houses which were all made out of colourful colours to attract people especially to babies and children. The beads were also one of my favourit things to play with, make necklace out of beads with my mum that was on the inside of kids plays package. The colour mediated on my childhood and I question to myself 'why'? How does it make me to recall memories of my past and why? What did they do to my brain?? It was strange..
Outside of the gallery, there was another exhibition going on which was displayed on show window. The first thing I saw was.. a dead spider legs made into a pendant, then a horse poo, and then, a cow poo, and the last, I can't remember., I didn't want to look closely because it nearly made me sick beginning from the spider legs. I am sorry... It was my first time to feel unpleasent to look at jewellery.
At 4oclock, we went to 'Baby Bling Bling' closing party with jewellery performance. I can not say anything about the performance because it was in German and obviously did not understand what they were performing and the story about it. The performance was very unfamiliar and strange but, it was very new scene.

Catching up day
In the morning 11 am, we went to the opening of Robert Baines, Karl Fritsch, and Gerd Rothmann, 'Returning to the Jewel is a Return from Exile'. The place of exhibition and the installation of the works was stunning, which every pieces of artists work was on the tables without any security and the table was lined around in a circle. I was surprised how the works were so opened to people and have freedom of the work itself.
Next plan was to visit 'Five of a Kind', 'Ladies Boxes', Tanel Veenre exhibition and 'Animal Parade, or Jewellery Without People". I found interesting on Tanel Veenre exhibition because the place where his works were exhibited was new and fresh, which was at the door and handle shops. His pieces were set up against the big antique door, hung with fishing line and I was fascinated by his installation and his work itself as well, the fact that I think because of amazing colour proportion and similar kind of ornamentation has linear structure with door. It was very interesting harmony of the work with the shop.
After that, we visited at "Jewellery without people" by some French jewellers. When I walked into the room, I saw videos, showing a 'finger fashion show', which showed the rings like fashion show, wearing on fingers and did finger walking instead. It was very humorous and interesting how they presented their works in a brilliant way, and the audience seems interacted well with the works and enjoyed watching the parade.
Goldsmiths meeting is on today at 7pm and everyone is now putting make up on and ready to go.

Another day for Schmuck tour
Today we went to Helen Britton, Jewellery Life Catalogue launch in the morning, nice and fresh to start the beginning of the day. The gallery was literally crowded with people so it was quit difficult to see the work and even move around my body. However, I got to see her work over the people's shoulders and, of course, it was amazing. I am usually get interested by the artists work that seems hard to guess or think of the style of techniques and also the material that they use, and Helen Britton is one of the artist that triggered my curiosity- technique. Similar case to Laura Deakin, on pearl neckpieces and bird brooches which made me curiose on her unique and interesting way of she make her materials with polyester. It was beautiful combination with real and man-made pearl, with polyester. The bird brooches were also interesting because it was different from what she has done previously but it was good to see something that has changed, challenging, and pushing herself to develop into another way. What also like about her works is that they all are wearable pieces that carries the idea of conceptual, intellectural and design in every pieces which I should think and learn from it.
After the Laura's place, we visited another small gallery and saw Henriette Schuster. Her works were displayed with small objects that she collected, and it was a pleasurable moment to see each pieces at the same time which all seems connected and directed her story well. Also her overlap neckpieces and rings reminded me of a pair of twins overlaping and separating from each other. Is it may be because I am twin???? Who knows.. haha

Schmuck day
Today we had adventures travelling and visiting in 6 different galleries to see schmuck.
First place was an exhibition called 'Life's a bench II', where we saw very unique pieces of neckpieces and ring which was made out of plastic, colourful and unique setting of stones, and other works that were also neckpieces and broochs which were enamelled on steels which I found the texture and colour quit interesting.
Second gallery was called 'Finger and Hand Costume', and it wasn't my favourit exhibition I saw today. I found the way they made display on the pieces with hand model that made out of some kind of cotton felt awkwardness of the work. I thought it wasn't really worked well with the hand model, It was difficult to find the connection and relationship between the work and the hand and I learnt that depands on how we make installation could change the whole concept and affects the outcome of the work which could be either good or bad,.
I had another similar situation like this at the 'Look' exhibition. At first, the fluorescent light was attractive but as soon as I got in and tried to 'look' at the works, I was hardly to observe each individual pieces because of the lights. It was funny that people were trying to take photos of the works to 'look' at by the flash and I wander whether that was in purpose to make people to take photos. Everyone at the exhibition seemed trying hard to 'look' and at the same time busy to take photos. The flash and fluorescent light distracted me and I tired to stay longer because I wanted to see the works. May be that is why the exhibition title was 'Look', but still I think it was even reached the idea of 'look' even though we tried to look at the pieces which I was nearly exhausted to stay. I was there to see the proper live image of the works but in the end, I had to look at the works only through by photos that I have taken, and I thought "what is the point of being here to see which I could just stay at home and look it up in internet?"
Ishikawa works were bri-l--li------ant.
'Close the the skin' by Eunmi Chun and Akiko Kurihara were also great. I had a chat with Eunmi Chun about her work, asking few question and she said using her own hair and plating gold on to it is all about transforming from the idea of hair and cow intestine from aversion to beautiful; and transient nature to everlasting.

Schmuck 2011 in Munich
Today was the most exiting day ever.
Finally, we were accomplished one of a purpose of the trip, which we were given a chance to see the most biggest jewellery xhibition and fair in Europe during the international trade fair. I was overwhelmed by the different kinds of catagories to look at such as techonology, fashion, textile, objects, glass, traditional and contemporary jewellery, exhibition for jewellery and objects; Talante and Schmuck. It was very big and lot more atmospheric than any other fairs that I have experienced before. There were lot more varieties to look at in designs, artworks, also as in presentation of the works, and the great thing about is to meet people and artists from different world, has created a big space of atmosphere of communication and relationship between the audience.
The exhibition 'Talante' was really impressive performance of contemporary jewellery artworks as well as in texile, ceramics and object by young designers and artists. Most of the works were made very highly standered but what I was little bit unsure about was that the exhibition itselfe was quit uncomfortable, because of the fact that the works were locked up by the window like museum of histtory. I may have wrong impression, and may be it has to be displayed like that but for me, compare to other works like textile, it was very easy to look at closer AND there was no restriction on by moving boday to see its work, whereas jewelleries were obstructed by the window, making difficult to observe. Why not open the window and present pieces to the audience in more clear way and also to give more freedom on its pieces to speak insead of staying inside of box? Do they afraid of their pieces to be fully exposed by the audience?
The exhibition wasn't innovative enought than I thought, but most of the pieces were innovative in design as well as in utilisation in range of techniques and materials to enhance the quality of the pieces.
After the fair, we visited The Gallium Treasure of Obsertraum. I wasn't sure whether the work was made to be look like treasure or it should be the actual treasure. Also, it was sad that we couldn't get a chance to read description about its work and treasure, because everything was in German. It was difficult to understand or could not understand the actual pieces and history of the treasure which was really shame.
I am really looking forward to see other schmuck exhibition and artists work and I hopefully get inpired by them.

The Stedelijk museum
Today, we were givin free time to explore Amsterdam before we leave, and I went to visit museum of Stedelijk. The museum was really nicely decorated in contemporary way as well as carrying a look of historical design. The exhibition called 'Making histories: changing views of the collection' and the work was focused on modern and contemporary art and design, and was presented by several artists such as
Kazimir Malevich, Yves Klein, Willem de Kooning, Marijke van Warmerdam and so on. In design rooms, the showcase was about collection of tableware and accessories. I found jewellery works from its collection, by Karl Fritsch, Hellen Britton, Mikiko Minewaki and etc. Karl and Helen's works are everywhere and Victoria was happy to see his works again at the museum =3=
After the museum, we went for SHOPPING!!!!!!! I bought shoes and I am loving it.
and no more shopping today and tomorrow, and hopfully in Germany as well.....

Today we went on a train and travelled to country side of Amsterdam which took about more than 1hr.
We visited Marzee gallery and the place was amazing. They had enormous amount of collections of contemporary jewellery on museum and spend almost 3hrs to look at each artworks on the drawer. While I was looking at the works, I found one very interesting and unique pieces made by korean artist called Tae Hee In. Which I found very interesting on her work was the way she set the stones and I think she does casting on block of wood. It was very unique way of setting and dealing with stones utilise with wood that is carved on surface. We also got a free book of Marzee and had a nice cup of tea with delicious cookie after.
We took another train to visit museum of contemporary art to see exhibition 'true colour'.
I saw Silvia's brooch and it was nice to see her work at the exhibition all the way to Amsterdam.

Today we met Paul Derrez at gallery Ra. His gallery was recently moved out from old place
and the new space looked fantastic. The works at the gallery were mixed with well-known artists and
young artists and it was really nice to see the works together. He talked about the jewellery in fashion field and art gallery field and compared each other that people who works with fashion is much more commersial than the one in art gallery, which it became more focused on design. But I see most of the works on gallery becoming and focusing on design as well as carrying the idea of artistic characteristics, and he also mentioned that we need consistency to do some kind of online shop where its open for people to buy and experiencce on contemporary jewellery and I think its important to do that so that people can change stereotype thinking of it.
After visiting Paul's gallery, we went to flea market and I tried herring, which is a traditionl food in Amsterdam. It.. was........ very interesting. I tasted it, it had a kinda strong fishy smell but then when I ate it with pickle and raw onion it was ok. I can't say delicious but I think its worth it to try once.
We visited Louise Schmidt gallery and saw amazing pieces of famous jewellery artists and I found out that she only collects famous artists work compare to the other galleries we have visited before. She said that it is hardly to find the trend in jewellery because it carries many possibilities and open for many things, such as each individual pieces carry different stories on. And also we talked about the catalogue became easy to look it up in internet instead of purchase them and becomes the issue of loosing books. Her view on this was quit surprise which she finds no problem on this because she is one of them who loves technology the fact that it became much more easier and faster on reading.
What I found during the tour on each different gallerys from day 1 till today was that hearing differernt kinds oand distinct opinions on contemporary jewellery which I think its such a good experience.
In the afternoon, Saori, Hannah and Victoria all laughed at me..because I accidently ate bird food that I bought from Hema.. which I thought it was a nuts for HUMAN food. but .. it wasnt. . It tasted really weird..
It looks like a big round ball cookie and it looked interesting so I tried them just a little bit (coz I normally become curious when I find new food) and it taste wasn't good. . My stomach was fine afterall.

visiting Ted Noten and gallery

We arrived in the morning 6.20am at Amsterdam.
The weather in Amsterdam was very windy, cloudy and bits of raining today but still old buildings and streets looked beautiful. We had lot of walking today and I found while I was walking, that
many many people are riding bicycles and I realised how dangerous they are .....
Anyway,today we visited Ted Noten's studio bicycle at 1pm. I was very excited and tired at the same time
but was all right. (really) Unfortunatly we haven't seen Ted at the studio, and instead of him his work partners introduced us their design and jewellery studio. We talked about their works, how they work with new 3D printing, and he mentioned how contemporary jewellery became much more easier and faster in making, compare to traditional jewellery. It was interesting that they work is mostly produced by factory in China, because the fact that its cheaper, which reminded me of 'mass-produce'. It was very nice to see his studio and how they are working.
After that we visited a contemporary jewellery gallery at 3pm.
We saw works of young contemporary jeweller from Amsterdam and from international as well.
It inspired me alot in a way of working with different kinds of materials, collaborating with silver and as well as conceptual ideas of the works, which tempt me to work on my bench.
